Street Fighter, the live-action film based on Capcom’s arcade game, released in Indian cinemas today, 16 October 2026. Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal makes his Hollywood debut in the film as Dhalsim, the Indian yoga master from the game. Paramount Pictures India confirmed the 16 October release in its official trailers, which have been released in English and Hindi. The Hindi trailers alone have crossed 33 lakh views on the studio’s YouTube channel.
The film opens in a crowded Dussehra week in India, alongside Hindi releases Nayyi Navelli and Prahaar, Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali, and Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2.
Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim
Vidyut Jammwal, known for the Commando films, plays Dhalsim, one of the original fighters from the 1991 game. He has trained in Kalaripayattu, the martial art from Kerala, since childhood, and his action scenes were one of the highlights of the film’s trailers. Dhalsim was last played on screen by Roshan Seth in the 1994 Street Fighter film.
Early reviews have been positive about the film’s fun tone. Hindustan Times gave it 3 stars, calling it a “fun, zany reboot” and saying Vidyut gets “a solid Hollywood debut”.
What Is Street Fighter About?
Set in 1993, the film follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken, who are drawn into a second World Warrior Tournament organised by the villain M. Bison. Fighters from around the world, including Dhalsim, take part in the tournament.
