Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior review: The 3D period drama is all class

Summary

Tanhaji is about a warrior who promises his father, to get the Mughal Rulers out of the country. He takes on Aurangazeb, who was the ruler. Directed by Haunted movie fame Om Raut, the film was released on January 10. Let’s see how it is.

Story

Shivaji Maharaj handsover 23 forts to Aurangzeb, including the Kondhana. Aurangzeb sends Udaybhan (Saif Ali Khan) with a huge army with a canon called ‘Naagin’, to ensure that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj cannot recover the fort. Tanhaji wants to go on and lead the campaign and Savitribai (Kajol) becomes his silent strength. An intense battle between Tanhaji and the deadly Udaybhan in the journey to recapture the fort forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

Ajay Devgn makes a brilliant attempt as Maratha warrior Tanhaji. He dominates the acts with high patriotic passion. Kajol as Tanhaji’s wife Savitribai gives a stunning performance in short span. Saif as Udaybhan dominates with Brillant plot setting and he is ferocious. Baazar actor Saif Ali Khan also adds humour into the scenes. he laughs ominously. This is one of Saif’s most amazing role in the recent past. Sharad Kelkar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj does an amazing job.

Minus

A bit slow-paced at some points which take off the thrill and build up created. Too much of CGI too affect the viewing. While the 3D movie is good to watch, the excessive CGI creates an odd feeling. Bit more exaggeration is done while trying to glorify the Maratha Warrior.

Technical Aspects

Camera work by Keiko Nakahara throughout the movie. Keiko Nakahara skills worked well in tune with the storytelling from Om Raut. Music by Sandeep Shirodkar gives an amazing backup to the epic fight scenes and situations. Editing by Dharmendra Sharma is also worth commendable as he almost ensured to minimize the amount of lag in between.

Verdict

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is a watchable story of a real hero, never credited before. Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan pull a splendid visual treat for movie lovers. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is worth watching with your gang and is a perfect movie to experience in theaters.
