He was born in Kerala to a Muslim family. Mammootty’s real name is Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail. He grew up in a village, Chempu near Vaikom. He graduated from Maharaja’s college, Kochi. Later he completed LLB from Government Law College, Ernakulam. Before starting his film career, he was a practising lawyer at Malappuram.

He started off with small roles and impressed everyone. With high talent, he was selected in multiple movies by legendary directors. Slowly, he started to become a popular face and later emerged as a superstar. Currently, apart from acting he is a producer and ambassador of various Government projects.

Career

Started his career through a 1971 film named Anubhavangal Palichakal. Rose to success after the 1987 film New Delhi and won the Kerala Film Critics Award for his role in the movie named Thaniyavarthanam in the same year. After that, there was no turning back.

His Tamil debut was through the film, Mounam Sammatham released in 1990. He has acted in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films. He is the chairman of Malayalam Communications and owns a distribution company named Mammootty Technotainment. His role as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in the movie, which released in 2000 was globally praised.
