His debut movie was Vaah Life Ho Toh Aisi which released in 2005. He worked as an assistant director in the movie Udta Punjab and acted in the movie. Later he worked as an assistant director in the movie Half Widow which released in 2017. His major movies include Beyond The Clouds and later as the hero in Dhadak with Jhanvi Kapoor.

He is the actor in A Suitable Boy, which will release soon on Netflix. Ishaan Khatter won Best Actor award for Beyond the Clouds at International Bosphorous Film Festival. He also won awards for Dhadak and Beyond the Clouds at Screen Awards and Zee Cine Award for Best Male Debut. International Indian Film Academy Awards was given for best Debut of the year for Dhadak and Filmfare award for Beyond the Clouds.
