She is daughter of a fisherman. Her studies were at Ursuline Senior Secondary School and later at St Teresa’s Anglo Indian School. She graduated in Bachelor of Arts.

Actress Shamna Kasim movie debut was with Manju Poloru Penkutty movie in 2004 as Dhanya. Later she acted in Hridayathil Sookshikkan, Junior Senior, December, Pachakuthira, Flash etc. Shamna’s debut Telugu movie was Sri Mahalakshmi which released in 2007.

Her Tamil debut was in the movie Muniyandi Vilangial Moonramandu which released in 2008. In 2009 she made her Kannada movie debut with Josh. Shamna’s popular films are Chattakaari, Jannal Oram, Kodiveeran, Oru Kuttanadan Blog, Adangu Maru, Madhura Raja, Kaapan, Savarakathi, Raju Garigadhi. She is shooting for Thalaivi, Vritam movie etc.
