Suriya has been in a turmoil with various movies including that of big directors which continuously failed at the box office. His new movie with Selvaraghavan was too much anticipated as the audience expected the actor and star in Suriya can fit well inside the canvas of the director. NGK is a huge disappointment for the audience and didn’t fulfil the expectations displayed throughout the post-production process and in the trailers.
This time the director will have to take the blame of the huge let down of the movie than the actor. Suriya dazzles as Nanda Gopalan Kumaran (NGK), and does more than possible to infuse life into the dormant script which has the qualified hero taking over the corrupt politics and trying to make it cleaner. Apart from Selvaraghavan’s previous movie, NGK fails to give convincing and real-life implications which could actually justify the travel of rags to the powerful political person.
The opponents NGK has to face is not given the strength through the script and hence they feel too petty and we are forced to believe the educated guy can really take over easily. Selvaraghavan again falls short of giving strong lady roles including Sai Pallavi (NGK’s wife Geetha), and Rakul Preet Singh who is the PR professional with whom there occurs an extramarital affair thread seems to add up to the loose ends of the film. To add to the ill-treatment a song comes from out of the universe which makes us feel absurd.
NGK will be a one time watch and enjoyable when you can focus completely on Suriya and his acting as he has given his cent per cent effort for the movie.
